OUR IMPACT
REAL CHANGE, MEASURED IMPACT
Over 500 vulnerable people treated, with 53% fully recovered. Our services directly alleviate acute and chronic pain, improve mobility, promote wellbeing and create a sense of community.
Our work has been shown to have a positive impact on the physical and mental health of our service users. Many of them are able to become active and productive members of society as a result of the improvements in their physical condition following our intervention. This brings further benefits to their families, the local community, and society at large.

KEY DIFFERENTIATORS
OUR APPROACH

MULTIDISCIPLINARY THERAPY TREATMENTS
Providing tailor-made rehabilitation programs and treatments for common symptoms and conditions presented by this population. These include physical disability, chronic injuries, acute and chronic pain, mobility issues, muscular weakness and pain, digestive issues, menstrual irregularities, insomnia, anxiety, etc. Our therapeutic approach includes physiotherapy, acupuncture, therapeutic massage, nutrition, and facilitating access to mobility aids and to specialist medical interventions when required.

GLOBAL COLLABORATION
Global professional collaboration Hosting highly qualified professional practitioners of physiotherapy, acupuncture and therapeutic massage with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, who volunteer their skills and knowledge to create a unique therapeutic approach that adapts to the specific needs of this population.

CULTURAL INTEGRATION
Fostering cultural exchange to help the integration of individuals from different cultures into the local community. We help specific individuals with severe health issues gain access to specialised medical care, assisting with appointments, transport, and translation. We serve as a bridge between displaced communities and local professionals, providing them with ways to understand and trust each other.
PIONEERING A HOLISTIC APPROACH AS PART OF A HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE
Traditionally, primary health is the only approach available in humanitarian settings. Our work shows that the needs of the population we serve cannot all be met with this approach but can be well served by a therapeutic approach that addresses the whole person rather than individual symptoms, in collaboration with primary health general practitioners and specialists.
COMPREHENSIVE DATA AND STORIES
BY THE NUMBERS
INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS
There has been a steady increase of patients since the project began in January 2019. The typical number of new cases is 4-10 people per month, coming from Moria and Kara Tepe camps. Up to now we have treated 119 cases.
RECOVERED AND ONGOING CASES
During this past year we had 52 fully recovered cases, 42 on-going, and 15 who have left the island. With the current influx of refugees to the island, we expect that the number of new cases that we treat per month will increase.
MOST COMMON INJURIES
The refugee population commonly presents with chronic physical injuries such as elbow fractures, herniated discs, lower limb fractures, knee and wrist problems, joint atrophy and deformity; as well as the psychological and emotional consequences of traumatic experiences lived both before leaving their countries and during their journeys to safety.
AGE GROUPS
The most common age groups attended in the displaced populations in Lesvos, Greece. During the year of 2025.

INNOVATIONS IN CARE
ADAPTING THERAPY TO COMPLEX NEEDS
A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO REHABILITATION
Displaced individuals often arrive with a combination of serious physical challenges:
-
Disabilities caused by trauma or neurological damage;
-
Severe weakness and muscle loss due to malnutrition;
-
Compromised digestion, energy levels, and immune function.
To address these interconnected issues, we deliver a holistic therapeutic model—one that not only relieves pain and restores movement, but also supports the body's ability to recover, strengthen, and function.

OUR CORE THERAPEUTIC MODEL
Through years of fieldwork, we’ve developed a proven approach that combines:

PHYSIOTHERAPY
to restore movement and function.

ACUPUNCTURE
to regulate body systems and relieve pain.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
to reduce tension, improve circulation, and ease chronic discomfort.
We work with experienced volunteer therapists, each with at least five years of clinical experience in their respective disciplines.
PERSONALIZED CARE FROM DAY ONE
Every individual begins with a one-on-one intake session, supported by a translator, to:

Understand their current condition and needs.

Assess which combination of therapies will be most effective.

Identify whether nutritional support is required to initiate recovery.
Those with severe or long-term conditions often receive daily treatments for weeks or months—tailored to their pace of improvement and resilience.

EXTENDING SUPPORT BEYOND THERAPY
In complex cases involving trauma, disability, or improperly healed surgeries, we go further by providing:
✔️ Diagnostic tests (when unavailable elsewhere);
✔️ Appointments with orthopedic specialists;
✔️ Custom mobility aids, including adapted wheelchairs;
✔️ Referrals for surgical interventions, when necessary
CONTINUOUS INNOVATION, RESPONSIVE CARE
We are committed to evolving our programs to meet the changing needs of the displaced populations we serve—always maintaining the highest standards of care and compassion.
Our innovation isn’t technology—it’s our ability to adapt, respond, and deliver real results in one of Europe’s most challenging humanitarian contexts.
